Your Questions, Answered
Everything you need to know before your pet's first or next visit to Claws-N-Paws in McHenry, IL.
How do I prepare my pet for their first visit?
For dogs: A short walk before their appointment could help to burn off nervous energy. We offer flea and tick baths if necessary. If you choose not to have a flea and tick bath, make sure your pet is free of fleas and ticks before arriving.
For cats: A secure carrier is required. Adding familiar bedding inside can help them feel calmer. Avoid feeding a large meal right before the appointment to reduce the chance of an upset stomach. If your pet has any health conditions, allergies, or special behavioral notes, please let us know when you book so we can plan accordingly.
How does non-sedated cat grooming work?
Our non-sedated cat grooming uses low-stress handling techniques developed through years of hands-on experience with felines of all temperaments. We work at the cat's pace, using calming positioning, gentle restraint, and a quiet environment to keep stress levels as low as possible. Unlike sedation, there is no recovery period — your cat goes home relaxed and looks great. This approach is safe for most healthy adult cats; we will discuss your cat's individual needs during booking.
Do you accept walk-ins for nail trims?
We do not accept walk-ins for nail trims; every service is by appointment only. Appointments are always recommended to guarantee your preferred time slot. Calling ahead, even just an hour before, helps us fit you in smoothly without a long wait. Full grooming services require a longer lead time for a scheduled appointment.
What vaccinations are required before grooming?
We do not require your pet's vet records.
